Greenwoods Unloops Local Loop - 31st
May 2005

 |
| Greenwoods Communications
- a leading independent network solutions provider to
the communications industry - has spent in excess of 20,000
engineering hours enabling Local Loop Unbundling (LLU)
for telecoms operators. This investment in time has supported
the growing financial investment by major operators and
OEMs that have turn to Greenwoods for engineers with the
expertise and knowledge to deliver LLU. |

LLU has been crucial to the development of the
telecoms industry, delivering increased competition and innovation
within a market that has experienced economic difficulties over the
past few years. Although uptake was originally hindered by operators'
reluctance to pay the BT Wholesale charges to lease lines for the
'last mile', these costs have now been dramatically cut enabling a
wide range of operators to deliver high-speed data services.
"Local Loop Unbundling offers considerable opportunities for operators,
service providers and consumers, alike," says John Rogers, project
manager, Greenwoods Communications. "But most operators don't have
the necessary level of skilled and experienced engineers to undertake
the required level of activity. Greenwoods has already spent in excess
of 20,000 engineering hours on LLU projects and it is this level of
expertise that ensures we will continue to address this demand."
Greenwoods has become a favoured choice among the UK's major service
providers and operators based on the specialist skills of its engineers
and a 'one-stop-shop' approach to telecoms design and installation.
The Company's services cover a full spectrum, from logistics, warehousing
and transportation through to asset tracking, staging and testing.
This approach frees up valuable time for customers, enabling them
to concentrate on core business activities. As the appeal of LLU broadens,
additional operators will call upon Greenwood's flexible workforce
in order to minimise cost and increase economies of scale.
Greenwoods' extensive experience working within BT's exchanges also
adds value for its telecoms customers. This means Greenwoods already
has security-cleared access as well as knowledge of the sites, the
specialist equipment they contain and how it works. With engineers
strategically located all over the UK, Greenwoods enables operators
to seamlessly ramp up activity as required and expand their offer
both geographically and in terms of bandwidth in order to meet continuing
user demand.
Greenwoods' engineers have the specialist knowledge to install networks, test
and commission a wide range of different network equipment. This includes
the ability to build racks and cable assemblers, splice traps, fibre
connectors and many other components, to reduce the add-on costs often
associated with outsourcing to a variety of third parties. Plus, with
a custom-built, in-house, staging facility, Greenwoods can test and
commission cabinets without the need to go on site. This allows the
final installation to run quickly, smoothly and far more cost effectively. |
