Greenwoods Communications, the UK's leading independent
telecoms services company, has announced the launch of its 'Network
Rationalisation' service to help communications operators more efficiently
control the capacity on their networks and dramatically reduce capital
expenditure. The service will enable operators to outsource the re-distribution
of existing equipment across a network in response to fluctuating
traffic volume, eliminating the need to purchase new and costly kit.
While operators currently have more capacity than they are likely
to need in their backbones, the local network rings inevitably suffer
from uneven demand. This means that while some links are at full capacity,
others are under-utilised. To optimise network capacity, operators
need enough routing equipment in the right place at the right time
to cope with this demand. However, as a result of the recent industry
downturn, telecoms companies are increasingly unwilling to expend
capital on costly new equipment.
Greenwoods' Network Rationalisation service allows operators to remove
under-utilised equipment from one site and re-deploy it at other sites
where traffic is high. By optimising equipment usage in the network,
operators can enjoy substantial cost savings as the need to buy expensive
new routing equipment is dramatically reduced. Reducing capital expenditure
in this way, positively and directly affects carriers' bottom line,
and is a major consideration in the current market climate.
Additionally, by outsourcing this function to Greenwoods, operators
are able to improve network performance without incurring the cost
of recruiting or retraining to acquire the necessary skill sets. In
this way, operators can instead maintain their focus on the technical
delivery of core services to customers. "With shareholders
breathing down their necks, anything that reduces capital expenditure
is a major boon for operators," said John Greenwood, MD Greenwoods
Communications. "Our new rationalisation service allows operators
to keep up with the capacity demands at busy sites without having
to buy more expensive equipment. With the industry still turbulent,
it is very important for operators to ensure that they are getting
the most out of their current infrastructure before they consider
any upgrade plans." |
