Greenwoods Communications, the UK's leading independent
telecom services provider, has announced the expansion of its construction
design capabilities with the addition of 'virtual reality' 3D modelling
and CAM (computer aided manufacturing) techniques. Greenwoods already
designs and installs switch sites and communications rooms for Europe's
leading mobile and fixed line network operators and by introducing
3D modelling to the process, it can now offer a better and more complete
customised service.
The sophisticated 3D drawings will allow customers to visualise the
proposed equipment layout or cabinet design prior to construction.
These images can be viewed whole or in part and from any angle. Working
closely with the customer, design changes can be implemented and their
impact on the PoP site viewed immediately. These computer aided designs
can cope more efficiently with a multitude of specifications on telecoms
switching and routing equipment, data cabinets and cabling infrastructure,
whilst maximising the use of critical space in areas where it is at
a premium.
"This technology is far more efficient than previous
methods," commented Peter Tingey, general manager of Greenwoods' manufacturing
division. "Errors have been eliminated and man hours in the design
and manufacturing process have been massively reduced enabling us
to pass significant cost savings directly onto our customers."
