Small but perfectly
formed: New RA8000 Telecoms Cable from Greenwoods - 21st

| Greenwoods Communications,
has launched a new cable that enables network operators
and OEMs to maximise the use of the limited space available
in their crowded switch rooms, distribution frames, equipment
racks and ducting whilst maintaining the performance characteristics
of current cables. The new RA8000 cable also has lower
attenuation than current cables of comparable performance,
enabling it to be run over longer distances. |

Developed by Greenwoods in conjunction with Raydex/CDT
and Radiall, the RA8000 provides technical performance comparable
to BT3002/TZC75024 but provides a 40% space saving. This means that
an operator can install an additional 583 cables in a typical 100mm
x 100mm underfloor duct - a substantial increase in capacity. The
RA8000 is available in up to 32 core, providing network engineers
with easier cable management and faster running in of cabling, reducing
the time and cost of installation.
"With the current rapid
growth in voice and data traffic, and the imminent arrival of broadband
services, operators need to maximise use of the space they have available
so they can provide more services from their existing facilities,"
said John Greenwood, managing director of Greenwoods Communications.
"And with BT opening up its local exchanges to other operators, those
operators need to optimise the amount of space they're allocated.
We therefore believe there is considerable market demand for this
cable."
The RA8000 follows Greenwoods' successful development of the RA7000
cable in 2000 as a space-saving alternative to BT2003. RA7000 allows
full cabling of HDC43 systems, which is unachievable with the larger
BT2003 cable, and is used by leading network operators such as Cable
& Wireless, Colt, Level 3, MCI Worldcom and ntl.
