The Problem

Diamond Light Source had a requirement for a company to design and deliver 115 control cabinets to be located in the control implementation area for the storage ring, front end and beam line areas of the synchrotron.

The cabinets were to house sensitive electronic control and monitoring units for ultra high vacuum pumps, gauges and other specialised equipment used on the Diamond project.

The Solution

Greenwoods’ combination of technical expertise and strict adherence to the numerous quality procedures meant it was among a small number of firms capable of providing what was needed for the project.

Diamond control cabinets contain a wide array of specialist units that were delivered to Greenwoods Headquarters in Coleshill from Germany and the United States.

The cabinets were configured in-house at Greenwoods by skilled workshop staff that installed the power supplies, cable assemblies and configured the cabinets to Diamond’s specifications.

Ensuring high quality materials and workmanship was of paramount importance to the success of the project. A rigorous testing procedure was implemented and adhered to throughout the project. This testing process was driven by the necessity for the sophisticated control modules to be ready to use when delivered.

The project was completed within the specified time frame, which consisted of a three-week build and three-week testing process for each of the 115 cabinets.

Once the cabinets had been configured, tested and checked by the quality department, Esprit; the Greenwoods owned transport company used, vehicles with air-ride suspension to deliver the cabinets direct to Diamond.
